A short ride around Barrhead

May 2012
20 km

My plans for the day was to do a 65 km long ride. But it was a cold day and I had my eyes on a 250 km bikeride starting 48 hours later. It was also a cold day and I had some problems with a sore groin. I decided to take it easy halfway into the ride and abandon my original plans.

I had quite a late start that morning and went out of my flat in quite a cold sun. I cycled past my local golf course and up to the pretty busy A726 towards East Kilbride. I took the road up towards Barrhead and then the very steep Aurs Road and the equally steep Springfield Road before the road became pretty flat on the south side of Barrhead.

Looking north-west towards Barrhead and Paisley from backroads up to Neilston

I had never done this road before and noted this as a good short bikeride, ideal for the winter. The road was a bit undulating alongside the railway line before it ended up in Neilston. I took the road back down the hill again to Barrhead and my flat again where I nursed my sore groin area with various Savlon and other creams for the 250 km long ride starting 40 hours later.

Conclusion

A very good short ride which I will put on my list of good short rides, ideal for winter. That is what I can really say about this ride which I really recommend.
